Identifying our goals and taking concrete action towards them, does not usually happen easily or quickly. Even having a clear vision doesn’t preclude us from encountering obstacles.
The journey and clearing the path of said obstacles, in order to reach those goals is what makes the eventual success worth celebrating. True accomplishment comes from overcoming the challenges that appear along the way.
Obstacles are either internal, external or habitual.
External obstacles, such as market conditions, the economy or political climate are out of our control.
Internal obstacles are within our control and often are one-time situations such as time constraints or cash flow.
Habitual obstacles are a reflection of how we get in our own way and can be modified only by behavioral changes.
Identifying, then addressing which type you are up against is a crucial step forward.
Next, we must creatively determine how to handle those struggles (read: opportunities). This step is tricky and may unlock our feelings around what is truly possible (or what we feel we are capable of).
Finally, approaching even the obstacles with gratitude, enriches our life experiences along the path. Making the working towards the goal perhaps more meaningful then the outcome itself.
What goals are you looking to achieve? Do you have clarity and is it written down? Have you identified the obstacles? How can shifts be made to ensure you focus on the journey rather than the destination?
