It is in our nature to choose short term needs over long-term benefits. It may seem that this knocks off more small things from our “to do” list, when in actuality, it’s a delay tactic. Doing this allows us to push off the larger more impactful (aka scarier or more challenging or uncomfortable) items.
By mindfully reorganizing the way in which you tackle things, you will start to notice deeper satisfaction with your accomplishments and long-lasting results.
To reprioritize and kill procrastination, try these three simple tools:
First, forgive yourself and be self-compassionate. Focus on the fact that you are now aware and making better (albeit harder) choices.
Second, shift your attention to the rewarding aspects of completing a dreaded task. Take baby steps and define only one action that is needed next, to move ahead.
Third, make the act of procrastinating more inconvenient (delete your social media apps or put time limits on using them).
Start today, don’t put it off or delay. The steps are simple and laid out above, all you have to do is choose to begin.
